Washington Oaks Gardens State Park

If you want to take a leisurely stroll through a beautiful garden or along a rocky seashore, Washington Oaks Garden State Park is the place to go. The photos below were taken in late February when the azaleas and camellias were just coming into bloom. This well-tended garden was designed by former owners Owen and Louise Young. From roses to tropical plants and ponds guarded by ancient oaks draped with Spanish moss, this garden provides a pleasant, serene atmosphere for visitors.

Across the highway visitors will be surprised to find a beach scattered with dark coquina rocks that may remind them of a New England coastline. Because low tide provides a better view of the rocks and a wider shoreline for walking, check the tide schedule before you go.

Washington Oaks Gardens State Park is located near the Atlantic Ocean south of St. Augustine off A1A.
