Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve (GTMNERR)

If you are in the mood for an adventure into the wilds of Florida, GTMNERR is the place to go. Several trails from 1.1 miles to 2.7 miles meander through marsh, maritime hammock, pine flatwoods, and tidal saltmarsh. (The Tolomato River is a beautiful reward at the end of the Shell Bluff Road trail.) Trails are clearly marked and kiosks along the way provide information. Before or after your hike, visit the Environmental Education Center to see the exhibits and to get information. Also, stop by the earthen dam that crosses the Guana River at the entrance of the reserve to fish or view the Guana River and Guana Lake.

GTMNERR is located near the Atlantic Ocean about eight miles north of St. Augustine on State Road A1A. Visit the website for more information.

Take sunscreen, insect repellent, and plenty of water on your adventure.
