Fort Island

Located a few miles west of Crystal River on CR 44 is Fort Island, home of a small gulf beach and public boat ramp. The beach has a few covered picnic tables and restrooms while the boat ramp area has a Fishing Pier offering a beautiful panorama of Crystal Bay and the nearby Big Grass Island.

It was a sunny, cool afternoon in early November when we visited Fort Island. From the beach we enjoyed watching the flock of Black Skimmers and the pre-sunset views of Crystal Bay and the nearby island.
