Myakka River State Park

Myakka River State Park has won the National Gold Medal twice. This is one of those parks where the real Florida shines through. Here the visitor will find nature trails, a birdwalk, a unique canopy walkway where the visitor can investigate the treetops, horse trails, fishing, boating, canoeing, kayaking, bicycling, camping, and picnicking. Air boat tours are available and tram tours are offered from mid-December through May. There is plenty to do and much to see.

We visited the park in July, the hottest time of the year and often the rainiest time. We weren’t able to visit the canopy walkway, but the birdwalk gave us a beautiful view of the serene Upper Myakka Lake.
