Yulee Sugar Mill Ruins Historic State Park

Yulee Sugar Mill Ruins Historic State Park provides the visitor a small peek at one facet of Florida’s mid-nineteenth century plantations. Owner of the plantation, David Levy Yulee’s name is recognized throughout Florida for his leadership in Florida’s industries of that time, as well as, in the government before statehood and after. He served as a U. S. Senator, among other positions. The sugar mill was a productive part of the over 5,000 acre plantation which ran from 1851-1864 when the plantation was destroyed during the American Civil War. The ruins are all that remain of the plantation.

The park is about 2.5 miles west of Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park on County Road 490. There is a picnic area with restrooms. Just across the road visitors will see the sugar mill with its stonework and machinery, including the chimney, steam engine, cane press, and the boilery.
