Suwannee River State Park

Songwriter Stephen Foster made the Suwannee River famous in his song “Old Folks at Home.” Though he never saw it, he might have enjoyed the white limestone banks, gently flowing waters, and shady woodlands. The park provides a large, open picnic area with restrooms, hiking trails, and spectacular views of the river.

We spent a couple of hours walking the Suwannee River Trail and the Earthworks Trail. The walking was easy and quiet except for the birds and squirrels in the tops of the trees. This is a peaceful place to visit midweek in the early summer.
