Lake Jackson Mounds Archaeological State Park

Located only a few miles from Florida’s Historic Capitol in Tallahassee is Lake Jackson Mounds Archaeological State Park. Two temple mounds formed by Native Americans between AD 1200-1500 rise above a live-oak shaded picnic area. Each mound provides stairs leading to an observation deck. Historic information about the site which is part of the Southeastern Ceremonial Complex can be found within the large picnic pavilion. Nature trails offer visitors a close up view of Florida’s native plants and the remains of a grist mill from the 1800s.
