Fort San Marcos de Apalachee

San Marcos de Apalachee Historic State Park is located in St. Marks, Florida at the junction of the St. Marks River and the Wakulla River. History and beautiful scenery drew us to this quiet park. The history of the park began in 1528 with Panfilo de Narvaez’s arrival. In 1539, Hernando de Soto passed through the same area. The first fort was started in 1679 and was constructed of logs.

We really enjoyed our visit. We started by watching an informative film at the museum then toured the grounds and the ruins of the fort. Trails led to some amazing views of the rivers.
