Castillo de San Marcos

Fort Castillo de San Marcos was built by the Spanish from 1672 - 1695 and again in 1738. The Castillo (Spanish for castle) was renamed Fort Marion after Florida became a U.S. Territory in 1821 and continued to serve as a military installation until the 1930s. While Florida was under British control (1763 - 1783) the Castillo was named Fort Saint Mark.

Fort Castillo de San Marcos is located on Castillo Drive (SR A1A) in downtown St. Augustine.
